Warning lights use electronic technology to rotate or flash the light source to serve as a reminder. Commonly installed in special vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, police cars, and engineering vehicles.
Definition of ECE R65 warning light
A dedicated warning light refers to a light that intermittently emits blue or amber light for vehicle use (emitting red light may be prohibited in some countries, so red is not mentioned).
"Rotating or fixed flashing light" refers to a special warning light (T or HT category) that intermittently emits light around its vertical axis;
"Directional flashing light" refers to a special warning light (Class X) that intermittently emits light within a limited angle area;
Warning light intensity level:
Class 1 (one intensity level): Night time
Class 2 (two intensity levels): Night+Day (both intensity levels need to meet the requirements).
Definition of SAE warning lights
Level 1 warning light device: used for emergency vehicles in critical situations, reminding drivers and pedestrians of dangerous activities or behaviors;
Level 2 warning light device: used to indicate traffic congestion or slow vehicle movement;
Level 3 warning light device: for identification only;
SAE J595
Directional warning light: The illuminated area is 10 ° up and down, and 20 ° left and right;
Luminous colors: white, yellow, red, blue;
SAE J845
Omnidirectional warning light: The illuminated area is 360 ° horizontal and 5 ° up and down;
Selective warning light: Horizontal luminous area greater than 40 ° but less than 360 °, up and down 5 °;
Luminescent colors: white, yellow, red, blue, green (green can only be used as a secondary warning light for Level 1 and Level 2 warning lights).
Frequency requirements for ECE R65 warning lights
Frequency f (Hz): The number of flashes (or a group of flashes) within 1 second, f=1/T
"ON" time tH: The luminous time when the luminous intensity is greater than 1/10 of the maximum luminous intensity;
"OFF" time tD: The luminous intensity is less than 1/100 of the maximum luminous intensity and less than 10 cd of luminous time (if it is a group of flashes, the "OFF" time is calculated from the last flash of that group to the first flash of the next group);
Frequency test conditions: Test at 90%, 100%, and 115% rated voltage under 23 ± 5C conditions.
If the emission light of a special warning light consists of several sets of flashes, the time distance ∆ t between the following flashes must be very short.
If the distance ∆ t between peaks is less than or equal to 0.04 s, the intermediate pulse is evaluated as a flash. If the distance ∆ t is long, only the flash with the highest effective intensity is effective.
Frequency requirements for SAE warning lights
SAE J595 and SAE J845 have the same frequency requirements
A light pulse or sequence of light pulses, where there is a dark interval of at least 160ms between the last pulse of the light pulse or sequence of light pulses and the first pulse of the next pulse or sequence of light pulses. In order to be considered as a series of light pulses, each pulse in this series must start within 100ms after the end of the previous light pulse. The dark light intensity should not exceed 2% of the maximum flash intensity.
The frequency of warning lights should be at least 1.0 Hz, but should not exceed 4.0 Hz, f=1/T
